Spring 1 2018 / 2019
The Theme of Ancient Egypt will take the children on an adventure through the ancient civilisation of Egypt. Mummies, pharaohs, pyramids, hieroglyphs, gods and goddesses, and much more - Ancient Egypt promises to be a packed theme to inspire and motivate!
Autumn 1 2018 / 2019
It's All Greek To Me
The Theme of Ancient Greece will take the children on an adventure through mythology and Ancient Greek life. The children will be immersed in Ancient Greek literature leading to them producing their very own myth where they will then become Ancient Greek storytellers. Key questions we hope to answer:
"How did the Ancient Greek live? What makes a great Greek Myth? Who were the Athenians and the Spartans? What impact did the Ancient Greeks have on the modern world?"
Summer 2 2018
In the final term of 2018, the children will be immersed in the 'Brave New World' theme. This theme will allow the children to use their imagination to consider a new and futuristic, Brave New World. They will examine fantasy worlds created by writers and artists, as well as looking at how our world may change in the future. Some children will make the link to their move to a new school, as well as other important changes that occur in their life.
As Artists, we will learn to use layers of different media to create tone and texture. We will start by looking at cool and warm colours and explore using different media building up to creating a class collage of an ice landscape. We will also look at the skill of using multiple images laid over one another and flicked through to give the impression of movement. This will tie in to the digital work we will do in ICT to create a moving animation.

Summer 1 2018
We are continuing with our Bombs, Battles and Bravery theme into the Summer 1 term.
Year 5 and 6 are learning about World War II. Our first Spring theme Bombs, Battles and Bravery, will take the children on a journey of discovery about what life was like during World War Two.
Children will take on the role of different ‘characters’ and they will study the theme through their character’s eyes, developing an understanding of the causes and effects of the war on the people of Britain. We will have the opportunity to explore the impact of the war with Germany with a focus on the Blitz and the Battle of Britain.

Sir Teachalot Visit
Year 5 and 6 had a wonderful day on Tuesday 20th February when Sir Teachalot came in to visit and tell us all about life in England during WW2. We all dressed up as different characters from the 1940s: There were a lot of evacuees and land girls and a few soldiers and even a couple of our very own Spitfires!
Everyone had a great time, and we are sure they'll all remember what they learnt for a long time!
The children learnt what it was like for evacuees during the war, as well as what it was like to live through the Blitz. They were all completely transfixed, listening to all the wonderful facts and having a chance to look at historical artefacts from the time, some even used weapons that were used during the war. The children particularly enjoyed learning a song from the period and doing parade drills.
